
Every August, the Outremeuse district in Liège comes alive with the Fêtes de Liège — one of Belgium’s most colourful folk festivals. Held around 15 August, celebrating both the Assumption and the unique cultural identity of this island district with its own traditions, dialect and community spirit.

What the festivities include
A traditional religious procession, colourful street markets, antique fairs and flea markets. Traditional Walloon music fills the streets with folk songs and dances. Giant figure puppets representing historical and legendary characters also appear.
