Every year in late June, Amsterdam celebrates its diversity with the Amsterdam Roots Festival. For several days, world music fills parks, squares and venues across the city. Part of the programme is completely free — and that free part alone is worth the visit.
Partially free — the outdoor stage in Vondelpark is completely free.
Background
The Amsterdam Roots Festival has existed for over three decades. It has always had two sides: paid events in the Melkweg and other venues, and a free outdoor programme for everyone.
What you’ll find
Free outdoor programme
The outdoor stage in Vondelpark — musicians from Africa, Asia, South America and the Middle East performing for an audience sitting on the grass.
World cuisine and market
A market with musical instruments, crafts and international food. Things you wouldn’t find in an ordinary shop.
