Portugal has a rich tradition of summer street festivals. In June, Lisbon and Porto celebrate their patron saints with the Festas de Lisboa and the São João festival, with grilled sardines, music and lively neighbourhoods. In Porto, Serralves em Festa at the end of May is a major free cultural festival, and around NOS Alive in Lisbon there are free activities in the city. From May onwards the weather is ideal, and prices are often lower than elsewhere in Western Europe.
